This house in Dartford was extensively refurbished and renovated with the objectives of providing extra living space and better energy performance. This included a loft conversion, an open-plan kitchen, new insulation and external rendering, and a full internal refurbishment. We wanted to create a modern home which kept its original character and was a comfortable, practical place to live for a busy family.
This included structural alterations, internal remodelling, insulation and external finishing. The work was phased and well organised to make better use of the space and improve comfort, appearance and long-term performance.
The primary difficulty was synchronising many large-scale improvements within the existing framework of the property. Developing the open-plan kitchen necessitated detailed structural planning, and the loft conversion needed to provide functional space without impacting the stability of the roof. Insulation and rendering also needed to be executed to a high degree of accuracy in order to provide a uniform external finish. They enhanced thermal performance for the property as a whole.
The property is now a lighter, more spacious and energy-efficient family home. The loft conversion has created additional much-needed usable space. The new open-plan kitchen has provided a more functional and sociable main living space. The new insulation has added extra comfort throughout the home, and the external rendering offers a clean, modern finish which gives the whole property a new look.
